This midcentury modern house in Mandeville Canyon was restored and expanded to create a residence that seamlessly blends architectural clarity with the warmth of Brazilian modern design. The project emphasized the integrity of the original structure—clean lines, open volumes, and strong connections to the canyon setting—while extending the footprint to accommodate contemporary living.
The interiors were designed to heighten this dialogue between past and present, pairing restored midcentury elements with furnishings that embody the elegance and craftsmanship of Brazilian modernism.
Sculptural forms in wood and leather bring a sense of history and permanence, while bold accents and refined silhouettes introduce vibrancy and rhythm. Natural light plays a central role throughout, casting shifting shadows across the pieces and connecting the rooms to the surrounding landscape.
The combination of restraint and expression, simplicity and texture, results in a home that feels both timeless and current. More than a restoration, the residence has been reimagined as a sanctuary—sophisticated yet welcoming, rooted in design heritage yet attuned to the ease of contemporary California living.
